The years before the russian attack on Ukraine

Ukraine is a sovereign country and has every right to join forces with whoever they like. It would have been cheaper for Russia to accept - alas, it had gone Pariah.

The Ukraine people are the most brainwashed and low information out of any group in the Russian defensive war.

The non-christian Terrorist Ukraine Regime has banned all media and politicians that oppose their lunatic war against Russia.

It's a shame, I'm sure they would side with Russia too If they had the facts.

I'm definitely convinced of that!

You are a very good example of how people are controlled in Russia as they are constantly indoctrinated from morning to night by the state media and Putin's speeches.

The Russian people are to be pitied because all free media channels have been closed, newspapers critical of the government have been banned, the free press has been banned, free journalists have been imprisoned, many internet channels have been blocked ...
Dictator Putin controls everything in Russia!

So dictator Putin controls you too, @kanYE24 !
And only when Putin is finally murdered by someone will you wake up from this nightmare!

By the way:
Enjoy your time here on lichess while you still can, because Putin will be closing this channel in Russia very soon.
@Sarg0n

it would have been grand for the US to recognize Ukraine as a sovereign country in 2014 when Victoria Nuland, acting on US policy, instigated a coup. all this sudden US concern about sovereignty is most touch, and very much too late after the war it provoked has turned against it and against NATO. The US will be happy to leave and go on to the next foreign "adventure" (Taiwan), just as it was when it lost in Vietnam and Afghanistan and was finally, mostly kicked out of Iraq. I'll be happy to learn it has left Syria, where it has allied itself with jihadist groups to overthrow the government, and is no long promoting an american fake as the leader of Venezuela. It also wasn't overly concerned with national sovereignty when it interfered with the Minsk accords, or launched an attack on the pipeline in Germany, a story that has been largely avoided by our "free" press--a press that might be privately owned, but functions as a state media in far too many cases, from the buildup to the second Iraq War to Russiagate to Joe Biden's son's laptop. it might as well be Izvestia or Pravda from the USSR days, or Saddam's spokesman Baghdad Bob. The effectiveness of such propaganda is sadly evident all over these comment threads.

If somebody whacks Putin it will be instigated by the US; he is far more popular in Russia than any US politician is in the US--that happens in wars. JFK was widely supported in the US when he launched the blockade of USSR ships bringing missiles to Cuba (in response, I might add, to the US putting similar missiles in Turkey, a little detail that the US managed to suppress for a number of years, because it didn't want to look "weak"). And that dynamic is still driving US politics today, as Biden strives to appear strong and decisive, whether it is in the midst of faked air raid sirens walking through Kiev with Zelensky, or shooting down weather and hobby balloons, as the 2024 election starts to loom. I would rather see him visiting East Palestine, where a disaster created by him and Trump and a number of presidents going back decades has created another potential Love Canal.

All the US has to do to make the world a better place right now is stop interfering in other countries, stop supporting the Kingdom of Saud as it starves Yemen, stop supporting regime changes all over the globe to install US compliant governments, start paying more attention to its own vast problems, created by decades of neglecting to maintain infrastructure, decades of an increasingly corrupt political system driven by wealthy donors (FTX is just the latest example), decades of increasing inequality, and decades of interventions in foreign countries, both military and politicial, which have cost tens of thousands of American lives, trillions of dollars on the domestic front along, and millions of lives of people in the countries we have interfered with. One estimate is 6 million lives, comparable to the number of Jewish lives lost in the Holocaust. and every time, every intervention justified with the airy words of "freedom" and "democracy" and "human rights".

Colin Powell justified staying in Iraq, using a bull in a china shop analogy--"We broke it, we fix it". except we didn't fix it. or fix Libya, or fix Afghanistan, or fix South Vietnam, or Korea. We just kept on rampaging around, breaking things. The latest thing we are in the process of breaking is Ukraine, and when it falls because we can't prop up its government anymore, what are we going to do then? We'll have a choice between cutting and running, as we did in Vietnam and Afghanistan, or escalating to a direct war with Russia and China. Of all the US interventions since the end of World War 2, this is the dumbest and riskiest, which is why it has been the one that has been most heavily supported by propaganda in the US and European media.
A lot of people are expressing their believe that USA is a a first class democracy. If this is true I don't understand why this country
has a long tradition to cooperate with dictators like Saddam, Marco, Diem, Batista etc to mention a few.

> Afghanistan was only invaded because of 9/11. They refused to hand over the al Qaeda terrorists that planned the attack, so we invaded them. Iraq was because of a misunderstanding. Vietnam was an attempt to stop the spread of communism.

So what your saying is we can invade and destroy countries if it is in our interests. Or we claim it is. Ergo we are by definition always right and wear the a large white hat. But other countries cannot have legitimate interests or issues with other countries. And therefore cannot invade and fight wars if the US does not agree. Of course u mentioned Afghanistan, however all the terrorists were Saudi, what sanctions or changes did we impose on the Saudis? And why did we not simply bomb the camps where the training was occurring? And be done? 20 years I forget how much money billions and a failed war...... Way to go USA! I recommended a video above that predicted a war in 2015 and stated why Russia would have to go to war from a respected American professor. You mentioned Vietnam. How many Vietnemese died in that war? How many Americans? We bombed them, napalmed them, used Agent Orange and other chemical deforestation weapons against the countrside. And we lost. We left. Communism won. Hmmm Reality states the US is not all powerful, all knowing, all good and that we should not be involved in endless foreign wars and toppling regimes as we did in Ukraine in 2014 when we toppled a democratically elected President. Do not trust CNN, FOX, BBC, these are simply at this time a dept of the US state dept.

I live in the free West. It aint so free. Those days are long gone. It is literally 1984 with wrong speak punished. Do you remember when for instance people said the virus was a lab leak and called conspiracy theorists and banned from twitter, fb, or lost jobs?? Now the major newsoutlets and the US govt is saying so. RT with a miniscule portion of watchers, was banned in the UK and I believe the EU. Oh yes we believe in the free exchange of ideas and differing view points. Pleeeeaaaasssseeee I am actually old enough to remember when being a liberal meant you believed in freedom of speech and disagreement.

I think it was Roosevelt as in President Roosevelt of the USA who said He may be a sonofabitch, but he is our sonofabitch! While I do not agree with much of our foreign policy but the reality in this world you do make alliances, trade agreements etc, with less than perfect partners and allies. All countries realize this except the US which acts as if we always act out of a disinterested motive.
Luckily all the wars has stayed in-house on the planet earth and not gone beyond to other planets.

Aliens just need to see the quarrelling and pollution floating around the world to say they are still behaving like animals. Will the aliens ever come and help us? Maybe they are already hear helping with the digitized age. Currency will have to be completely digitized into one global currency, then the country deficits will have to be mathematically simplified.

It's going to take time to clean-up the mess and stop humanity from quarrelling like animals do. We cannot even keep our mouth shut in a forum post without quarrelling with other post. Quoting posts to rub it in even more.

You are to be envied! Be thankful to live in a free country!

I'm constantly in contact with friends from Germany and also from Russia who practically live in two different universes.

In Germany, you can find out about the war in Ukraine from a wide variety of sources every day. For example, from countless different national and just as many international newspapers that report independently and freely. There are discussion programs on television that are worthy of the name. Critical arguments are exchanged. Harsh criticism of the behavior of one's own government is voiced without fear, without having to fear consequences for the words chosen.

On the other hand, what kind of media is there in Russia, I ask you?
Many - no, all - independent newspapers critical of the government have been banned and their editors imprisoned. Since there is no longer any freedom of the press there, newspapers and television are brought into line. The Internet is controlled, countless channels have been blocked there. Everything is geared towards the Kremlin regime. Every day the same propaganda by the state media. The Russian people are being brainwashed. Critical discussions questioning the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war there do not exist and should not exist. And anyone who dares to criticize Putin will be arrested or liquidated on the same day, and their families will face reprisals from this terrorist state. A system of fear was set up.

This will not change because Putin is a dictator for life in Russia. - I wish him a short life, which hopefully ends tomorrow!
