There were also "Inane and Pointless" threads (morphyms and clousems would remember). Although I did not participate in them, it was interesting to read all the replies.

Mind you, sometimes interesting Threads are made but they often don't receive the attention they deserve, then someone posts a Thread about a Walrus vs an Elephant fight and who would win, and they receive like five pages of replies. :).

It’s where the ‘they don’t like it up em’ brigade congregate.
The off topic forum is where those who ‘don’t like it up em’ attack someone on a personal level because they think that a higher chess rating is some arbitrary measurement of their perceived intellectual superiority.
These superior beings are an endless source of amusement. To be fair, they’re pretty easy to outsmart and ridicule. It doesn’t require much effort. It’s far more fun making these people look an arse than finding mate in 5 or 10.
So when they get it back in spades, they don’t like it up em, they get all pissy.
These MENSA graduates also usually have their snigger chums along for the ride... it’s great because then there’s two people to ridicule. It’s immensely satisfying to make these ‘superior beings’ look stupid.
These people make the forum a rather fun place and not a boring place to hang out.
